The Charlotte 49ers will break ground on the first phase of their $70 million football stadium expansion on Aug. 27, the university announced Wednesday.
Why it matters: Expanding Jerry Richardson Stadium has been years in the making, and the changes will put capacity at roughly 18,100 people.
Between the lines: The 49ers do not anticipate moving games due to stadium construction, however, some game-day experience changes will be in place.
- Gate 2 on the south side of the stadium will be closed during games.
- Plus some tailgating spots will be temporarily relocated, according to the university.
Catch up quick: In addition to more seating, including premium options, the expansion will focus on the western side of the stadium over the existing press box and will include a state-of-the-art tower.
Packers Athletic Club Opens to Members, Offering Premier Fitness Space and Luxury Amenities
Doors to the Packers Athletic Club open to the public Tuesday.
The team is billing the Titletown District fitness center as one-of-a-kind in the area, and it comes with a high-end membership fee.
It is on the district’s west end, adjacent to the football field, and helps fill a void in what has been built over the past eight years across from Lambeau Field.
“We like to talk about Titletown being a great place where you can live, work, eat and play,” said Packers President and CEO Mark Murphy. “Here, I think you actually get to work out and play.”

The sports complex will be used by United Capital City Athletic, Special Olympics Missouri, and Jefferson City Parks and Recreation, creating new recreational opportunities for the community while generating economic impact through tournaments and events.
