North Texas City Proposes $70 million Soccer Facility That Could Host New Pro Soccer Team
The City of Garland is looking at a potential $70 million training facility and youth soccer complex to host the newly-announced pro soccer team in North Texas, Atlético Dallas.
They held their team name and logo unveiling in downtown Garland earlier this month. The club is set to compete in the USL Championship – USL's second-division league – in 2027.
During a city work session, city staff presented plans for the complex, which would be nearly 65 acres at the intersection of President George Bush Turnpike and Holford Road.
Renderings shared during the meeting show the proposed complex with both the team's name and logo presented on the building, even though it was not explicitly stated the complex was intended for the team.
Republic High School Will Soon Break Ground on a $22M Indoor Athletics Facility
Behind the ever-growing Republic High School will soon be the latest addition to its campus, which will keep it at the forefront of athletics facilities at the state level.
Republic will break ground on a $22 million indoor athletics facility this summer. It will include a two-story brick-and-mortar building attached to another building that will house a 120-yard football field's worth of turf. The facility was approved by 70.8% of Republic voters in an April no-tax-increase bond issue.
It is expected to open in August 2026. It will become the latest high school indoor athletics facility in the Ozarks, with Nixa and Logan-Rogersville opening theirs this year, and Springfield Public Schools being in the early process of constructing one that will serve its five high schools.
