YMCA Holds Ribbon Cutting at New Athletics Facility

On Wednesday, May 28, the YMCA of Pueblo hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony for a new, state-of-the-art athletic facility that will enhance youth sports and community wellness.

The community joined YMCA leaders and families on Wednesday at the new facility on East Spaulding Avenue to celebrate the unveiling of the facility, which is named in honor of Dr. Bruno DeRose. According to the YMCA, Dr. DeRose was a lifelong champion of youth development and equitable access to physical activity.

“This is more than just a field,” said Janelle Andrews, President/CEO of the YMCA of Pueblo. “It’s a bold step forward in addressing the critical need for safe, accessible, and inclusive recreation spaces in our community. It’s a place where thousands of young people will find belonging, mentorship, and the confidence that comes from sports and teamwork.”

What to Expect in Phase 2 of Ravens M&T Bank Stadium Renovations

The shift starts at 6 a.m. at M&T Bank Stadium, where about 1,000 construction workers are at full tilt daily completing phase 2 of the three-year renovation project upgrading the Ravens' home as a premier destination both in-season and all year round.

On Thursday, the Ravens gave reporters a hard hat tour through the latest step in "The Next Evolution," a transformative $489 million project that rolled out its first round of improvements last season and will stretch through 2026.

Crews were excavating premium club spaces below the stadium during last season, and construction ramped up the day after the Ravens beat the Pittsburgh Steelers in the wild-card playoffs at raucous M&T Bank Stadium on Jan. 11.

Now there are 70 days before the Ravens kick off their preseason opener at M&T Bank Stadium versus the Indianapolis Colts. While a tremendous amount of work has been done, construction is ongoing on numerous fronts.

Athletic Facilities, Housing and Retail Planned for GMU Campus Development

George Mason University plans to focus on athletics facilities first when redeveloping the western portion of its Fairfax campus.

After new sports/recreation facilities are in place, Mason will move forward with developing housing — for both the university community and others — plus retail spaces and community facilities, university officials and consultants told community members on May 22.

About 40 people attended the community meeting at Fairfax City Hall, which offered a first look at three concept proposals for the future development. Most were members of surrounding neighborhoods worried about the impact of additional development on traffic congestion.
