Nicholas Family of Companies Breaks Ground on Elk Grove Ice Arena in Suburban Chicago
Nicholas Family of Companies today announced it will break ground this fall on the Elk Grove Ice Arena, a new indoor ice rink on Meacham Road in Elk Grove Village, Ill., about 25 miles northwest of Chicago. Scheduled to open in fall 2026, the 86,261-square-foot, two-rink complex will serve the local hockey community and feature a family-friendly restaurant with rooftop access called Hatty’s Icehouse.
The Elk Grove Ice Arena marks Nicholas Family of Companies’ third ice arena project in the Chicago area in just one year, following its construction of the Rosemont Ice Arena, a twin-sheet, 100,000-square-foot facility opening this fall in Rosemont; and its acquisition of Glacier Ice Arena, a two-rink, 63,000-square-foot facility in Vernon Hills. Nicholas also owns a fourth rink, the Mount Prospect Ice Arena at Nicholas Sportsplex in Mount Prospect.
30,000-Square-Foot 'Smash Yard' Pickleball Facility Coming to McKinney, Texas
The Smash Yard, a 10-court pickleball facility, is slated for northwest McKinney, on the city’s border with Prosper and Celina.
Work on the facility’s site is underway, with opening projected for 2026, project officials said.
The specifics
The 30,000-square-foot facility will include eight indoor and two outdoor full-size pickleball courts. Pickleball enthusiasts and project representatives Santosh Sahoo and Anish Katyal said the new facility will serve the growing demand for pickleball courts in the area.
The high residential growth in the area north of US 380 also drove the team to select the site “at the heart of McKinney, Celina and Prosper,” Katyal said, noting that finding an available court in the area can be challenging.
