Waterloo, Iowa, Breaks Ground on Youth Sports Complex
The Waterloo Development Corporation broke ground Tuesday morning on the Cedar Valley CourtWorks facility.
Construction plans for the 100,000-square-foot building include 8 full-size basketball courts and 16 volleyball courts. CourtWorks will also be able to host wrestling, gymnastics, pickleball, and handball tournaments, according to its website.
The building will serve as a sports tourism destination for youth athletics, the Waterloo Development Corporation says.
The facility is being built on the TechWorks campus near the John Deere Museum. It is set to be complete in early 2027.
Construction for the complex is funded through the Raise Our Game campaign. The Waterloo Development Corporation says it has secured $30.5 million so far and aims to raise $37 million.
The development team estimates the center will generate $10 to $15 million in annual economic impact in the first five years.

The day after The Hoops for St. Jude Tipoff Classic raised $400,000 for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, University of Memphis Athletic Director Dr. Ed Scott talked about the state of Tiger Athletics with the Memphis Rotary Club.
“It’s been 15 months, and you know what? We have done a lot of good together,” Dr. Scott said.
He talked on Tuesday about all the programs, key updates, and the renovations at Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium.
He stressed the renovations are on time and, most importantly, on budget right now.
He talked about NIL and revenue sharing, saying he hopes legislation comes soon to establish a set of rules.
He said maybe the biggest thing happening right now is more eyes than ever on the UofM’s athletic department, stressing the football game against Arkansas had 2.1 million viewers, which he said goes a long way.
