UMass Announces Vision for Football Stadium Upgrades and Vision for Future
UMass director of athletics Ryan Bamford held a “State of the Program and Strategic Vision” Zoom meeting on Monday, showcasing a slideshow in a webinar format to football alums and donors.
Photos of the slides made their way onto the social media platform X, sparking a conversation about the lack of substantial changes on the horizon. User @ohsnapholdup posted the photos to that account, providing context on what was said during the meeting.
One of the main topics of the meeting was going over the upgrades coming to McGuirk Alumni Stadium. A slide titled “Design Considerations — Architectural Interventions” showcased five different areas that will be altered.
Breck School Plans for New Athletic Facility on Former American Legion Land
After purchasing the Chester Bird American Legion Post in Golden Valley, Breck School is developing plans for a new athletic facility.
It’s part of a three-phase, 25-year plan for the school’s future.
Along with the new sports facility, Breck is aiming to reconstruct its middle school building.
The Golden Valley Planning Commission recommended the plan for approval on Monday.
The American Legion and Breck announced a real estate deal nearly a year ago that gives Breck ownership of the former Chester Bird post located at 200 Lilac Dr. N.
Since then, the Legion post has relocated to the former Red Lobster building at 8900 Golden Valley Rd.
When the deal was announced, Breck did not publicly identify a plan for the property’s future use.
However, it’s now clear that Breck plans to build an athletic facility, although its construction would likely come in the final phase of Breck’s 25-year plan.
The 47,300 square-foot facility “will serve as a central space connecting McKnight Stadium with upgraded baseball, softball, and multipurpose fields,” according to Golden Valley Planning Commission documents.
The school also aims to update its infrastructure and elevate many of its outdoor athletic fields to reduce the potential for flooding.
Naperville Parks Commissioners Mull Weather to Ask Voters for $120M for New Rec Center
Naperville Park District commissioners will decide Thursday if they will ask voters for $120 million to build a new activity center — a proposal that is already drawing opposition from the Fry Family YMCA.
The park district is proposing an indoor recreation center at the Frontier Sports Complex on the city’s south end. The proposed center would have indoor pools. Centennial Beach, a seasonal pool, is currently the district’s only swimming facility.
Park officials point to surveys indicating a desire for additional indoor facilities, not just pools. The youth gymnastics programs at Fort Hill Activity Center, which opened less than a decade ago, had over 1,000 participants on wait lists last year, officials said. Additionally, several facilities with indoor pools have closed in recent years, including the Kroehler Family YMCA, a fitness center on the main Edward Hospital campus and an LA Fitness.
