Daily Digs: TWU Plans $30M Athletics Facility, Texas A&M Reveals Renderings of New Hotel and Luxury Suites, and More!

Texas Women's University to Build $30M Athletics Facility

Texas Woman’s University announced plans to break ground on a new $30 million athletic facility in conjunction with the unveiling of a $10 million gift to the athletics department Wednesday.

Dawn S. Chaney, a TWU graduate and former student-athlete, provided the gift that will help fund construction of the venue, which is set to include a practice gym, locker rooms for five teams, indoor batting cages, dedicated space for the school’s wrestling and stunt programs as well as other facilities.

The venue will be named in Chaney’s honor.

“Texas Woman’s University has always been a place where students are empowered to achieve more than they imagined possible,” Chaney said in a statement announcing her gift. “I am excited to support this new athletics complex because it will provide student-athletes with the resources, facilities and opportunities they deserve to excel in competition, in the classroom and in life.”

South Carolina County Mulls $77M Sports Complex

Picture a million people frequenting Lexington County each year to enjoy sporting events, besides those at the school level.

The Lexington County Council is dreaming big and visualizing such projects, and they could be very real possibilities if it can get public approval after two more readings on the construction of a $77 million Congaree Sports Complex.

Proposed by the Lexington County Recreation and Aging Commission, the “first in the Midlands” project would be built upon 300 acres of donated property located off Interstate-77 near the Cayce Tennis and Fitness Centers.
