Police Warn Fitness Patrons to Guard Against Thieves

Police in Henrico County, Virginia are warning the community about a string of smash-and-grab thefts targeting cars parked at fitness centers.

Richmond ABC affiliate WRIC reports that police have responded to 13 such incidents in the area of an Orange Theory Fitness location within the past month.

While the car’s owners are inside exercising, the thieves have reportedly been smashing the windows out of cars and grabbing whatever valuables are left in plain sight inside.

Thieves apparently see gyms as prime locations for crime, because cars are left unattended for about an hour.

Police are encouraging patrons to protect their valuables and to be on the lookout when their cars are parked.

Staff at the Orange Theory Fitness told WRIC that they plan on adding additional surveillance cameras to help deter the thefts.
