If you are looking for a family-friendly activity you don't have to bundle up for, Cool Springz has the perfect outing-a "fitness class" that bounces.

"It's just fun," says Tamara Portnoy, owner of Cool Springz, a trampoline park in Albuquerque that has been open for about a year on Yale NE.

The trampoline park has partnered with Upward Motion Personal Training to bring a full-body workout to the facility six days a week. And while they call it a "class," Portnoy says it doesn't feel like it.

"We use the whole gym ... no equipment required. And it's something the kids and parents can do together," she said.

Technically, the class qualifies as a full-body "circuit" where there's a mix of strength and cardiovascular training, says Luis Alvidrez, personal trainer and owner of Upward Motion.

Alvidrez designed the class after visiting a similar trampoline park in California.

The instability of the trampoline surface requires a lot of "stabilizing" work, which generally means abdominal muscles, back muscles and other muscles in the body's trunk.

"You get the cardiovascular work from jumping, running and crawling through the foam pit," he says. "Strength comes from more traditional moves, like lunges, but on the unstable surface."

The class also brings in the element of fun with games such as races and relays, Portnoy says. Activities in the classes change every session and the various moves are done in blocks of 10 minutes are less. It is truly a class that people of all fitness levels can do together, Alvidrez says.
