Just days before the high school baseball season was set to begin, the dugout facility at Conner (Ky.) High School was destroyed by a storm.
WCPO Cincinnati reports that National Weather Service meteorologists are describing the weather event that destroyed the facility as a downburst, a violent rush of air from the base of a storm cloud right to the ground.
Though measuring the actual wind speed that caused the destruction isn’t possible, due to the downburst being lower than NWS radar beams, one meteorologist estimated that winds were between 60 and 70 miles-per-hour.

Despite the facility issue, the baseball team opened its season on Monday.
Storms also damaged a backstop at Hempfield (Penn.) high school on Saturday. Triblive reports that wind uprooted a pole, causing the backstop to partially collapse. Repairs on that project are slated to begin today, and should be ready by later in the week.
