Costly Joy Ride Tears Up High School Fields

Andy Berg

School officials and law enforcement in Scarborough, Maine, are dismayed after a vehicle tore up athletic fields at the local high school.

Damaged turf and sand pits are just part of the extensive damage done to school property, according to the Portland CBS affiliate.

"The town can't afford repairs like this. We're just not setup for major catastrophes to our sports complexes like that," Scarborough athletic director Michael LeGage said.

Police are still assessing the damage and reviewing security footage. The damage was extensive enough that the track will have to be closed until it can be fixed.

Isabella Turner, a junior at the Scarborough, was in disbelief at the damage.

"It affects everyone, not just the kids, but the community who use this facility. It's going to be expensive I imagine to fix," parent Michelle Turner said.
