Parks Department Investigating Playground Arson

Parks department officials in Fort Wayne, Ind., are looking for answers after a playground at a local park was set on fire.

City arson investigators have been dispatched and are looking for leads from the public to find out who set fire to playground equipment at Frank Park on Sunday.

The playground has now been taped off after about a quarter of the structure had melted and collapsed on itself. Responding firefighters doused the charred metal and plastic so it wouldn’t rekindle.

"We're very disappointed about the events that happened over the week-end at Franke Park and the fire that happened on the playground. We're working with the police department and the fire department on their investigation," Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation Department director Steve McDaniel told the local ABC affiliate.

The entire structure has now been removed for repair and eventual replacement.
