Ashland University’s state-of-the-art Niss Athletic Center will open its doors later this year. The 125,000-square-foot facility will house an 80 yard artificial surface field ringed by a 300 meter, six-lane track. Construction began in 2020 and should be completed in early-October. -Richland Source

New York City elected officials and community leaders held a ceremonial ground breaking this week to mark the beginning of a $7.1 million revamp of Ravenswood Playground. The playground, located next to the NYCHA Ravenswood Houses on 21st Street, will undergo an overhaul that will include new play equipment, a spray area and repaved basketball courts. The project, which is expected to be completed in Spring of 2022, will also feature new benches, lighting, native tree and plant beds, and a renovated picnic grove that will connect the playground and softball field. Eastern Kentucky University Athletics and Recreation will complete three playing surface projects and two lighting projects at facilities this summer and fall. Roy Kidd Stadium and Tom Samuels Track are getting new LED lighting this summer, while Roy Kidd Stadium and Earle Combs Stadium will receive new turf. The Hanger Field artificial surface at Roy Kidd Stadium, which was first installed in 2008, will be replaced. At Earle Combs Stadium, the infield artificial surface, which was installed before the 2010 season, will be replaced. A new artificial surface with a drainage system will replace the natural grass in the outfield making the entire field an artificial surface for the first time. Construction is underway on the new North Dakota State University outdoor track & field complex for the championship-winning Bison program. The new facility will officially be named the Terrence Dahl and Donna Beres Track Complex.
