The lower seating bowl of Camp Randall Stadium, home to University of Wisconsin football, has seen few significant changes since 1917, but it may see the addition of handrails for the first time if safety-conscious fans get their way.
UW Athletic Board chairman Peter Miller acknowledged the athletic department is now seeking approval for railings inside the stadium based on concerns voiced by longtime season-ticket holders, though it's not clear from what entity the approval is being sought. "I cannot speak to specific funding strategies or plans, but I know the department is in the process of seeking approval for railings to be installed at Camp Randall," Miller said in an email to WKOW 27 News.
Paul Robbins and his wife, Mary, have been season-ticket holders for more than three decades. Paul told 27 News that he deals with significant back issues that limit his walking, which makes it difficult for him to get to his seats in section C, row 69. Said Mary, "I just wish they’d take this extra step to make it safer for actually everybody."
