At the Native Vision youth summer camp -- a three-day gathering that caters to young American Indians -- sports are the central focus but family-oriented cultural events and community service projects also play a part.

They're not the kids who must venture but one city block from their brownstones to find the nearest McDonald's, nor the ones who for lunch consume pizza, Pepsi and Pop Rocks at suburban schools. Rather, they're American Indians, living on reservations throughout the United States -- or so says Allison Barlow, associate director of the Johns Hopkins Center for American Indian Health, housed at the university's Bloomberg School of Public Health.
