Teams Now Using $13.1M Algona Fieldhouse Sports Complex
Students have begun using the $13.1 million Algona Fieldhouse athletics facility. While some tasks still remain, Algona school officials planned to do a walkthrough this week to determine substantial completion.
Algona Community Schools Superintendent Joe Carter said the approximately 70,000-square foot athletic facility has been used by the wrestlers and its weightroom also has been used. One of the reasons behind the build was because the district needed more space for sports teams to practice and train, Carter said.
“What felt really good was today when our weight room was full with 50-60 kids,” he said. “The reason why we built it, [was] because we couldn’t fit that many kids in there before and that’s what makes me feel good, to see the kids using it as intended.”
In addition to sporting events and team practices, the facility next to Algona High School will be used for strength training and physical education classes for Algona Middle School and High School students.
America’s Tourism-Focused Contribution in Glasgow, Kentucky Aims to Fund Sports Complex Feasibility Study
In a significant move to enhance tourism in Glasgow, Kentucky, the Glasgow-Barren County Tourist and Convention Commission has approved a $1,500 contribution for a feasibility study of a proposed regional sports complex. This decision, made on August 2025, is part of a larger effort to evaluate the potential economic impact of the complex, which would be located on Cleveland Avenue near Red Cross Elementary.
The study aims to determine if the project could attract more visitors and stimulate local tourism. Glasgow Mayor Henry Royse emphasized that a well-organized plan, backed by a feasibility study, would be key in securing future funding from state legislators. This contribution also marks the beginning of collaborative efforts from various local entities to make the project a reality, with hopes of attracting additional state funding and future investments in the region.
