Springfield Voters Approve $22 Million for School Facility Improvements Including Indoor Athletics Complex
Voters in Springfield, Mo., recently approved a measure that will allow the school district to issue general obligation bonds in the amount of $22 million. The measure passed by 78% of the vote.
The bonds will be used for acquiring, constructing, improving, repairing, renovating, furnishing and equipping new and existing school sites and facilities. Some of the money will be used for an indoor athletics facility at Republic High School.
The measure will not increase the district's debt service property tax levy, making it an attractive proposition for local taxpayers seeking to improve educational and athletic facilities without additional tax burden.
Springfield already boasts several state-of-the-art sports facilities, and this new indoor complex will further enhance the district's athletic programs and provide year-round training opportunities for student-athletes.
Denver City Council Approves NWSL Stadium Site Purchase and Park Hill Golf Course Land Swap
The Denver City Council on Monday approved two "catalytic investments" involving the proposed National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) stadium and the site of the former Park Hill Golf Course.
Plans were unveiled for a 14,500-seat NWSL stadium in the area of Broadway and Interstate 25, known as Santa Fe Yards. The ownership group will fund the stadium in its entirety, but the approved intergovernmental agreement (IGA) between the NWSL ownership group, the City of Denver, and the Broadway Station Metropolitan District requires an investment from the city of $70 million.
Of the $70 million, up to $50 million will be used to acquire the land for the proposed stadium, while the other $20 million will be used for off-site stadium improvements, including pedestrian sidewalks, trails to connect parks, parking, traffic, street lighting and more.
The council also unanimously approved the acquisition of the former Park Hill Golf Course from Westside Investment Partners. In exchange, the company will receive an undeveloped parcel of land (145 acres) in Adams County. At 155 acres, the property marks the city's largest single purchase of private land for public use.
