On September 3 at 8:00 p.m., the New York Jets will release EmpowHER: Next Level, presented by Johnson & Johnson, the latest installment of the organization’s award-winning documentary series produced by 1JD Films. From the league’s debut at Media Day inside MetLife Stadium to the crowning of the first-ever champion, EmpowHER: Next Level captures the passion, determination, and historic moments that are helping redefine the future of women’s sports. The film follows the league's inaugural season as 15 programs across seven states competed in nearly 100 games, creating new opportunities for female student-athletes while establishing a sustainable pathway from high school flag football to collegiate competition.
Dating back to 2021, the EmpowHER series has documented the Jets' efforts to grow girls flag football and create opportunities for female athletes at every level of the sport. The inaugural season focused on the launch of girls' high school flag football in New Jersey, while subsequent editions chronicled the continued expansion of the game and the creation of Jets Flag Elite, the official girls flag football club travel team of the New York Jets. As the Jets partnered with the ECAC to launch a new collegiate league in 2026, the series returned to capture the milestones, challenges, and successes of a groundbreaking first season.
The release follows continued recognition for the EmpowHER franchise, including the 2025 edition, EmpowHER: Elite, which is currently nominated for an Emmy Award. Previous instalments of the series have earned honors from the Cynopsis Sports Awards, Hashtag Sports Awards, Communicator Awards, and Tely Awards for their storytelling and impact.
As participation in girls flag football continues to accelerate nationwide, the league provides student-athletes with new opportunities to compete at the collegiate level while strengthening the pathway from youth and high school football to the next stage of their athletic careers.
