Getting a game going at Mankiller Park just got a little easier. Cherokee Nation has installed a new self-serve sports equipment kiosk, giving park visitors access to basketballs, pickleball paddles and balls, and traditional Cherokee stickball sticks and balls.
Using the kiosk is simple. Visitors scan the QR code with their phone, choose the equipment they want, and the locker opens. Equipment is free to use for a set amount of time, with a small hourly fee after that to encourage people to return it for the next player.
Cherokee Nation controls the kiosk and can decide when it is available, what equipment is offered, and how much rentals cost. Rental payments and donations go directly to Cherokee Nation.
The system also helps park staff keep an eye on the equipment. Staff can receive alerts when items need to be restocked or when equipment has not been returned.
