Northwestern State Rallies for La. Tech Tornado Relief

Louisiana Tech saw major damage to many of its sports facilities when an F3 tornado tore through Ruston, La., last week — and one of the school’s sports rivals is stepping up to help.

Yesterday’s baseball game between Louisiana Tech and Northwestern State in Natchitoches, La., was also a fundraiser for tornado relief, according to a release.

Northwestern State stationed members of its Student-Athlete Advisory Committee at the stadium’s gate, collecting donations to help the campus and the broader Ruston community rebuild. In addition, proceeds from concessions sales were donated to the relief effort.

Northwestern State, despite hosting the game on their campus, flew a Louisiana Tech flag as an added sign of solidarity.

Northwestern State won the game 3-1, but Louisiana Tech didn’t leave empty handed. According to a tweet posted from the school’s baseball account, the fundraiser brought in nearly $2,000.

The storm that ravaged Louisiana Tech caused near complete destruction of the school’s softball, soccer, tennis and baseball facilities. Track and field facilities were also damaged.

Louisiana Tech set up a fund where donors throughout the country can contribute to the recovery effort at ltu.al/rebuildathletics.
