Former NFL quarterback Steve Dils and his wife Char Fortune have recently decided to give two gifts totaling $150,000 to The Campaign for Kennesaw State, which is seeking to raise $200 million by 2027 and features several projects for athletics facilities, including a proposed sports performance complex near Fifth Third Stadium, and an adjoining sports medicine center, the university announced April 1. Dils wound up his 10-year professional football career with the Atlanta Falcons, and the decision to live and work in Atlanta eventually led him to a relationship with Kennesaw State University. Dils is a member of the KSU Foundation’s Board of Trustees, as well as chair of the KSU Foundation Real Estate Committee.
A $200,000 grant from the Atherton Family Foundation will fund a new track and field facility for Mid-Pacific Institute, the Honolulu-based college preparatory school announced March 28. According to Spectrum News, the new track and field facility will be constructed on the current athletic field in the middle of campus, serving as a focal point for physical education, sports conditioning, community events and student activities. It will also provide a state-of-the-art venue to host track and field meets.
The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute athletic department celebrated a record-setting RPi Giving Day, raising more than $306,000 on March 14 in support of the department's 600-plus student-athletes. According to an announcement by the university located in Troy, N.Y., RPI athletics raised $306,063 from 1,960 different contributions. The amount of donations received constituted a 139 percent increase in funds raised during the athletic department's most recent official day of giving in November 2022.
The Murray State University football program received a $100,000 investment from the Racer Football Alumni Association on March 28. This contribution will help support numerous strategic initiatives and projects around the program. According to the MSU athletics website, previous investments from the RFAA have allowed the department to invest in educational benefits for football student-athletes and make much-needed enhancements to the team's facilities, including updates to the team meeting room, team lounge, coaches suit, locker room and more.
