Welcome to Fundraising Friday, AB Today's weekly digest of recent developments in development.
The University of Missouri Department of Athletics has received a $25 million commitment for the Memorial Stadium Improvements Project, director of athletics Laird Veatch announced Thursday. The anonymous donation provides a substantial boost toward the transformation of Memorial Stadium, home of the Tigers football program for nearly a century. The $250 million improvements project, which includes a comprehensive renovation of the north end zone concourse, is scheduled to break ground Nov. 30 and be completed in time for Mizzou's 2026 season.
Penn State University this week announced the latest eight-figure donation to the Beaver Stadium renovation project, a $5 million contribution from Playfly, the athletic department's new multimedia rights partner. As reported by Sports Illustrated, Penn State also said that it has raised $60.25 million for the planned $700 million renovation, with substantial work beginning after the 2024 football season.
East Tennessee native Morgan Wallen, a top winner at Thursday's 2024 Peoples Choice Country Awards, recently announced a $140,000 donation to Gibbs Youth Sports in Corryton to renovate Ruritan Park and its baseball fields, according to a report by Knoxville NBC affiliate WBIR. Wallen's pair of sold-out concerts Sept. 20 and Sept. 22 set a new record for the largest concert weekend at the University of Tennessee's Neyland Stadium — a record held by the Jackson 5 for 40 years.
