Welcome to Fundraising Friday, AB Today's weekly digest of recent developments in development.

University of Virginia Athletics and the Virginia Athletics Foundation have announced a transformative $3 million anonymous gift to endow scholarships for the UVA women’s lacrosse program. With the university’s Bicentennial Scholarship Fund providing a 50% match, the total impact of this historic commitment reaches $4.5 million, which, according to Wednesday's announcement at virginiasports.com, marks the largest single-sport scholarship endowment commitment to a women’s program in UVA history.

Montana Technological University, located in Butte, and the Montana Tech Foundation announced a $1.3 million philanthropic investment from Paul and Andrea Hladky to support student-athletes and enhance campus athletic facilities through the HPER Modernization Project. Per the announcement at mtech.edu, the Hladkys’ gift includes $1.05 million dedicated to Phase One of the HPER Modernization Project — an initiative aimed at modernizing and expanding the existing Health, Physical Education, and Recreation Complex to meet the growing needs of Oredigger Athletics and the general student body. In addition, $251,000 will be combined with other donors’ contributions to a new athletic endowment to provide permanent scholarship support for student-athletes. Critical infrastructure updates to the HPER Complex will include: modernized and expanded locker room space, including equitable facilities for women’s sports; enlarged training room to accommodate a growing student-athlete population; updated showers and security improvements including keycard access to enhance student safety; auxiliary gym to support intramural sports, summer camps, and general student recreation; and added athletics study lounge and expanded office space.

Boise State Athletics has received a $1 million gift from locally-based Alturas, which owns and operates a diversified group of businesses in construction, real estate, and other industries throughout the Intermountain West. The donation has been designated to the North End Zone Project and renews Alturas' membership in the Lyle Smith Society, a leadership group established to increase philanthropic revenues to support Boise State Athletics. According to Tuesday's announcement at broncosports.com, the North End Zone Project, which broke ground on Jan. 4, will take the student-athlete and fan experience to new heights. In addition to creating a 360-degree concourse, the North End Zone Project will add approximately 1,600 seats to Albertsons Stadium and feature 12 field level suites, 44 loge boxes, 148 ledge seats, 872 club seats with all-inclusive food and non-alcoholic beverage amenities. It will also serve all 18 Boise State programs and 350+ student-athletes through the Simplot Nutrition Lounge. Construction is on track for completion prior to the 2026 football season.
