The treasurer of a Wisconsin youth soccer club has been charged with embezzling more than $264,000 since 2019.
Michael J. Vega, former treasurer for the McFarland Soccer Club, has been charged with six counts of theft for taking money from the business in various ways β through PayPal payments, ATM withdraws, Venmo transfers, and the writing of checks.
Vega was interviewed by police back in June, but he offered little information, saying he couldn't recall details, such as names on certain accounts or why the money was used.
According to the Wisconsin State Journal, Vega said that he paid himself back for things he had bought, when asked about the transfer of funds from the club's account to his.
Vega eventually ended the interview by asking for a lawyer.
Police have determined that the club was missing a total of $264,572.
