Patrick Pass played fullback for the New England Patriots from 2000-2006 and again in 2009. However, now the four-time Super Bowl champion is playing with fire. He was arrested in a Planet Fitness on Wednesday for assaulting an elderly man, Juan Mario.
According to Fox News, Pass, “was allegedly arguing with an 82-year-old man over exercise equipment at the gym before the former NFL player shoved the victim to the floor.” The Mario man injured his back in the fall, but was not hospitalized as a result of the injuries.
There is facility security camera footage of the incident that shows Pass using a piece of equipment when Mario approached him. When Pass moved, the man began wiping down the equipment to use it for himself and a verbal confrontation began. That surveillance footage has not yet been released.
The assault occurred in Rhode Island, where assaulting a man over the age of 60 is a felony. Pass turned himself into police. In court, Pass was released without bail and ordered not to contact Mario. His next court date is set for January 2025. If he fails to make this appearance, he will be fined $10,000.
NBC 10 WJAR, recorded a brief interview with Pass outside of his home where he told reporters, “Look at me. Do you think I’m going to do that? Really? Please. I have better things to do than try to assault someone.”
Pass has been an active member of his North Providence community, coaching youth football and volunteering at the community’s holiday events, making these allegations even more unfortunate according to the North Providence police.
“Police say they know Pass and appreciate his contributions to the community, but they also say that the allegations against him, although unfortunate, are serious.” Said reporters for NBC 10 WJAR.
