
Boise State and Michigan State universities are partnering with T-Mobile to offer fan-targeted phone plans that will help fund the schools' respective athletics departments, according to separate announcements released Monday.
According to the Boise State announcement, Bronco Mobile — a the collaboration between Boise State Athletics, T-Mobile, Collegiate Mobile and Learfield — is "a groundbreaking phone service that allows customers to support Bronco Athletics, take advantage of exclusive gameday perks and showcase their fandom."
"Spartans Mobile is wireless that fuels wins for Michigan State University, and a new way for fans to stay connected, work together and support the team they love," said Joe Phillips, CEO of Collegiate Mobile, per the MSU announcement. "The tectonic shift in economics for collegiate athletics means athletic departments need to get creative to remain competitive, and Spartans Mobile is a new way to support the team on and off the field."
Boise State and Michigan State will collect 7% of each monthly bill payment made from student, university faculty and employee, and fan plans. Customers to keep their current phones and phone numbers, all with no contracts.
Every monthly customer payment provides an automatic contribution to Boise State Athletics or the True Blue Endowed Scholarship Fund from Bronco Mobile. "There's no extra cost, just extra money for the teams and programs they love," the BSU announcement states.
Michigan State users can earmark their contributions to either FOR SPARTA, which at $1 billion is the largest capital initiative in Michigan State Athletics history to elevate facilities and enhance the student-athlete experience, or the Varsity S Club, established in 1915 to unify past, present and future Spartan letter-winners.
