A Pennsylvania school district is picking up some high-tech security gear compliments of the Pittsburgh Steelers' Acrisure Stadium.

Mike Kapustik, a security guard at Leechburg schools, was recently at Acrisure when he noticed some unused metal detectors inside a storage area are at the stadium. Kapustik took it upon himself to ask whether the stadium might donate the metal detectors to Leechburg.

"One of our security guards saw them and inquired about possibly donating them to our district, and it happened,ā€ school board member Candi Stewart told the Tribune-Review. ā€œItā€™s great to have staff that works toward our school, even when out and about.ā€

Acrisure donated four of the metal detectors to the district on Jan. 10.

The district will be responsible for maintenance and upkeep related tot he stand-alone, walk-through detectors.

Superintendent Tiffany Nix praised the security guardā€™s initiative and described the donation as ā€œamazing.ā€

ā€œI canā€™t say enough good things about our firm, Bramlet Security,ā€ Nix said. ā€œIn times where budgeting is a concern and safety is always our top priority, this forward-Āthinking from our guard really made a difference. We truly appreciate it.ā€

District officials said acceptance of the metal detectors has nothing to do with an uptick in security threats, but the district took action after a specific threat.

According to the Tribune-Review, the district acquired two detectors in 2016 after a 13-year-old student was accused of bring a loaded gun to school. No one was injured, and the boy was charged as a juvenile.
