A homeless encampment situated near a Little League field in California has sparked concern from parents and coaches over reports of violence, drug dealing and fires in the area.
Parents told CBS News that the encampment has been located near Encino LIttle League fields for several weeks and has become cause for alarm as the camp encroaches closer the baseball diamonds where children play on multiple fields.
One parent said there had been incidents of vandalism, as well as a threat from a man with a machete.
"We're all deeply concerned," said Andrew Tapia, a Little League coach. "We've had some problems at the very least with vandalism to the vehicles."
The fields sit on Los Angeles city councilwoman Nithya Raman's district. A spokesperson for the councilwoman told CBS that Raman's son plays there and that her office is working on outreach to address the encampment, but that the issue is complicated by the fact that Caltrans owns some of the land in question.
