Three people were injured Monday night after a lightning strike hit a local high school stadium while students were practicing.
According to the Flathead Beacon, the principal of Glacier High School in Kalispell said the lightning struck the school’s soccer field around 6 p.m.
The lightning reportedly hit two players as well as a coach, according to principal Brad Holloway.
As reported Tuesday by Bozeman CBS affiliate KBZK, The head coach of the team provided lifesaving measures, including using an AED, before first responders arrived at the scene.
Kalispell Police Department, emergency services and staff responded quickly, and all three individuals were transported to Logan Health.
As of Monday evening, one of the players and the coach were responsive and remained at Logan Health for evaluation, while the other player received care in the intensive care unit. According to KBZK, that player remained in critical condition in the ICU as of Tuesday afternoon.
Glacier High School Activities director Mark Dennehy in an email to coaches around 9:30 p.m. on Monday said athletic practice will continue as scheduled with the exception of boys’ and girls’ soccer, which will practice in the afternoon.
Administrators and counseling staff were scheduled to be on site at the high school to assist students.
