A Palm Beach Gardens man was arrested Tuesday after he allegedly took a gun onto a high school campus during a basketball game, according to a police report.
Brian V. McKelton faces a charge of possession of a weapon on a school property. He was released Tuesday from the Palm Beach County Jail after posting $5,000 bail.
McKelton, 22, is accused of going to a Palm Beach Lakes High School basketball game with the gun in his possession.
A school staff member collecting money for parking noticed the gun on McKelton's lap as he drove into a parking lot on campus, the report said.
School police officers tried to find McKelton in the crowd during the game but were unsuccessful. After the game finished, McKelton got back into his vehicle and began to leave when he was noticed by the officers.
McKelton was pulled over and police found a Glock .40-caliber handgun inside the vehicle's center console, the report said.
McKelton did have a concealed weapons permit, but it's illegal to possess a gun on a school campus even with a permit, the report states.
It was the second incident involving a gun at Palm Beach Lakes High School this week.
On Monday, David Alfonso, the school's principal, notified parents that a 10th-grade student was arrested after bringing a gun to school. It is believed the student, who was not identified because he is a juvenile, may be involved in gang activity.
Police were notified about the 10th-grader carrying the gun by another student, Alfonso wrote in his letter.
