Facility Friday: Florida Ballparks, Brewers Training Complex

The University of Florida unveiled a $15 million renovation of its Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium this week. The project was a total revamp, except for the playing field, which was protected during construction. A 360-degree concourse and new chairback seating improve the fan experience, whereas the team gets larger lounge space, a new locker room and coaches offices. — Daily Commercial

Staying with the Gators, UF also broke ground last week on a new $65 million baseball stadium. The project, currently referred to as Florida Ballpark, will feature a 360-degree open concourse, shade structures, grass berms and non-traditional seating, premium seating options, high-definition video and sound, concessions and more than 4,00 chairback seats. The Santa Clara University board of trustees approved the 50,000-square-foot Stephen C. and Patricia A. Schott Athletic Excellence Center. The building, which is set for completion in 2020, will feature the 4,200-square-foot Stevens Academic Center, two practice gymnasiums for court sports, the 10,000-square-foot Bronco Bench Foundation Sports Performance Center, a sports medicine center and a nutrition station. The Milwaukee Brewers unveiled a new spring training complex called American Family Fields of Phoenix. The HKS-designed project includes a 106,000-square-foot clubhouse with locker rooms, new concessions and retail spaces, upgraded seating, a Daktronics video board and a new entry plaza. The facility also has sports science and psychological services space, an eight-lane batting tunnel, an agility field and a new practice field. — Brewers.mlblogs.com

The University of Minnesota board of regents approved a $4 million improvement project for Maturi Pavilion, home to the school’s volleyball team. Renovations will include upgrades to the locker room, weight room, training room, player lounge, coaches offices, club room, restrooms and guest seating. Augustana College in Rock Island, Ill., announced plans for construction of the Austin E. Knowlton Center for Innovation in Health, Wellness and Human Performance. The facility will include a 25-yard competition pool, classrooms, team spaces, offices and exercise labs. The new facility will allow the school to expand both the men’s and women’s swim and dive rosters, and explore adding women’s water polo as a varsity sport while maintaining men’s water polo as a club sport. — athletics.augustana.edu

New Mexico State University announced a new a new athletics master plan. In partnership with HOK, the plan includes upgrades for all 16 of NMSU’s sports. Among the big ticket items are millions in renovations and upgrades to Aggie Memorial Stadium that include a press box, bunker suites, a new scoreboard and improved restrooms and concessions. Under the plan, the Pan American Center will also receive millions in upgrades, including concourse improvements, club and suite improvements and a new center-hung scoreboard. At this point, the plan will be used to help guide the decision making process regarding future facility improvements. — Las Cruces Sun News
