Construction Begins on New $50M Sports Facility in Western New York

Construction is now underway for a new sports facility in Western New York.

The 716 Sports Complex is a $50 million, 331,000 square-foot multi-use sports and entertainment destination that will be located at 330 Maple Road in Amherst.

The new facility will give the community year-round opportunities for sports, training, recreation and events.

The project will be built in two phases, with the first phase breaking ground Monday and including a competition-grade turf dome and entertainment center. A second dome featuring a 200-meter indoor track is expected to begin construction in spring 2027, along with a planned hotel nearby.

Lawmaker Vote to Fast-Track San Diego Stadium and Housing Project

California state lawmakers on Sunday voted to fast-track a San Diego stadium and housing project by helping it avoid lawsuits over its impacts to the environment.

State Sen. Akilah Weber Pierson (D-La Mesa) led the push for two bills to help Midway Rising, a project backed by Los Angeles Rams owner Stan Kroenke.

The proposed project will replace the decades-old Pechanga Arena, and includes a new 16,000-seat facility, 4,254 homes, including up to 2,000 affordable units, and commercial and outdoor space. The site is south of Mission Bay.
