When Tennessee baseball opened for the season this week, fans got to see some of the changes that have already taken place during the update of Lindsey Nelson Stadium. Renovation work began in the stadium in November.
Work that has been completed so far includes seating changes, such as replacing 546 temporary seats along left field with 900+ new, permanent seats, 120+ new, permanent premium field level seats along the first base line and 130 new, permanent premium field level seats along the third base line.
These seats put fans as close to the action as possible and are a larger, more comfortable seating option.Down the left field line 35+ new 4Topp tables will be added in a tiered seating section down the left field line to connect the third base line with the outfield porch area.
Temporary concessions and restrooms are in place in the new seating areas along the third base line, since the area will remain a construction zone throughout the season.
More changes in store through 2025 at the stadium will include an updated entry way off of Pat Head Summitt for all fans, an additional entry at the Pat Head Summitt & Todd Helton intersection and a dedicated student entry gate along the first base line. Restroom and concession areas will be renovated along with several new concession concepts introduced around the park, and there will be a new bar in left field.
A new mezzanine level is also planned that will relocated and expand press and working staff area.
At the University of Texas at Austin, initiatives to upgrade DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium as well as the planned project for a new football practice facility were addressed by athletics director Chris Del Conte.
Del Conte spoke at an on-campus town hall earlier this month and outlined several planned football-related upgrades.
The football practice facility had been first announced by the university in April 2023, and construction is expected to begin in June.
Del Conte said a grass playing surface inside of DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium is planned to be in place by 2026. He also spoke about the need not only for a more modern football practice facility but one that’s also closer is proximity to the football offices, as players are currently forced to walk roughly 800 yards to the Frank Denius Fields.
Del Conte also outlined plans for a new scoreboard, recruiting lounge, refurbishments to the Touchdown Club, eighth and ninth floor suites, UT club and concessions inside the stadium.
The facility is slated to have dedicated parking reserved for Longhorn student athletes.
