Madison Unveils Plans for Aquatics Center in Dublin Park
Madison city leaders unveiled plans Wednesday for a roughly 25,000-square-foot aquatic center at Dublin Park that could bring more swimming space to students and the broader community.
The facility is planned for Field Five. Madison’s existing indoor and outdoor pools would remain open, meaning the project would expand the park’s aquatic space rather than replace what is already there.
Mayor Ranae Bartlett said the aquatic center rose high on the list as City Council members ranked Madison’s capital improvement priorities. The city has spent the summer researching aquatic facilities across Alabama and Tennessee to determine what could work in Madison.
The push for additional swimming space also comes after the motor for Dublin Park’s seasonal dome failed this year. The dome had allowed swimmers to continue using additional space during the winter.
Athletic Club Boise Announces Stadium Expansion
Athletic Club Boise today announced it will move from USL League One to the USL Championship for the 2027 season, bringing Division II professional soccer to Boise following the club’s inaugural season and the strong support it has received from fans, partners and the broader community.
As Athletic Club Boise prepares for USL Championship soccer, the club is also making a significant investment in its home. Before the start of the 2027 season, 3,000 seats will be added to the east side of the pitch for use by both men’s and women’s teams. Construction will also begin on a new practice pitch and state-of-the-art training facility. The expansion will create room for more supporters to experience Athletic Club Boise soccer while building the infrastructure needed for the club’s next chapter.
St. Joseph Athletic Facility Opens in Shawnee
The St. Joseph Athletic Facility opens this week in downtown Shawnee. It’s a new nonprofit community sports facility on the St. Joseph Catholic Campus, which includes the parish, grade school and Early Childhood Education Center.
The former high school football stadium was built about seventy years ago and will now serve grade school student-athletes across the Kansas City metro.
In addition to youth football, the facility will host other youth and adult recreational sport activities throughout the year.
“I think it looks fabulous,” John McGoldrick said. “It supports all the parishes in the archdiocese. It’s not just St. Joe, it supports CYO.”
