Florida State University’s Charlie Ward is in the beginning stages of building his own multi-million-dollar athletic facility.

On Tuesday, the Heisman Trophy winner got the Tallahassee-Leon County Planning Commission to approve a rezoning proposal to turn 109-acres of land off Capital Circle Southeast near Woodville Highway, into a multipurpose "barnyard"—type facility.

The complex will cost $26.9 million to build. Ward approached Blueprint agency in November to ask for $4 million to help jumpstart construction. [WFSU]

Hundreds gathered for the ribbon cutting of the new Moyer Sports Complex.

The complex first opened in 1992 and on average, is in use 230 days a year with around 250,000 guests annually.

In a game-changing move for Salem the state-of-the-art Moyer Sports Complex has new pickleball courts, a playground, and renovated softball fields and is now open to the public.

The Moyer Sports Complex is a place that has and will continue to have a positive economic impact.

“Monday through Friday we are going to be playing rec games in here and on weekends we are going to try and invite as many out-of-town guests as we can to stay in our hotels, eat in our restaurants, go to our grocery stores, spend their money, and then leave and go back home but the money stays here,” John Shaner, Director of Parks and Rec. for the City of Salem said.

The complex has hosted multiple events including 27 NCAA softball championships. These new fields are extra special to players and coaches who started out on the older diamonds. [WSLS]

Montana State University has invited the public to the official groundbreaking ceremony for the MSU Indoor Athletic Center (IAC) on Tuesday, July 16, at 3 pm in Bobcat Stadium's north end zone.

"I want to thank President Waded Cruzado, the entire MSU administration, and our donors for making this game-changing facility a reality," said MSU Director of Athletics Leon Costello. "The Indoor Athletic Center is another priority accomplished in our Strategic and Facility Masterplans and will offer Bobcat student athletes the space needed to prepare safely for competition regardless of the weather conditions."

Costello indicated that the project is 100-percent donor financed, designed by 45 Architecture & Interiors, will be constructed by Langlas & Associates, general contractor, and managed by MSU Planning, Design and Construction. "The Indoor Athletic Center offers our football team a venue to practice that avoids frigid late-season and spring temperatures and offers our track and field athletes consistent training and competition opportunities throughout the academic year. It will also maximize training days to continue the development of all student-athletes and programs that use the facility, and will decrease the risk of student-athlete injuries by limiting time spent practicing in inclement conditions."
