The City Planning Commission approved designs today for the Cleveland Clinic Global Peak Performance Center featuring the Cleveland Cavaliers’ new practice facility and the Clinic’s sports health/wellness programs. The Cleveland Clinic confirmed that the groundbreaking ceremony is set for Oct. 14.
The location for the event will be at 300 Canal Road — a riverside parking lot below Tower City Center. The actual site of where the Global Peak Performance Center will rise is on the other side of a hairpin turn in the Cuyahoga River called Collision Bend. The structure will be built where West 3rd Street intersects with Eagle Avenue/Stones Levee Road.
NEOtrans was first to report on the proposed project and that the Cavs practice facilities and corporate offices would be returning to Downtown Cleveland after spending the the last 17 years in suburban Independence. But the new center will be more than just a facility for the professional basketball team. [Cleveland Magazine]
Mansfield High School will get an upgraded athletics complex after the DeSoto Parish School Board approved the project on Friday.
A district news release said that the board unanimously approved a $5,542,274 capital project during its October 4 meeting, underscoring “the board’s commitment to providing top-tier resources and infrastructure for student-athletes, with upgrades spanning baseball, softball, and football facilities.
“Our core value of high performance drives every decision we make, and this project is a testament to that commitment,” said Superintendent Clay Corley. “By providing state-of-the-art facilities for our student-athletes, we are ensuring that they have the tools needed to excel. It is a blessing that we can complete these upgrades with available funds without having to raise revenue with a bond or additional tax measures. This not only allows us to continue our mission of excellence but also reflects the sound financial stewardship of our district. [KTAL]

A proposed recreation center in Boone is estimated to generate roughly $1.5 million and leave room for significant expansion.
A 37,000-square-foot community recreation complex will appear on the general election ballot on Nov. 5 as a special election issue. The facility would have space for indoor and outdoor activities and room for future expansion, which could mean a new pool.
The facility's operational cost would be $650,000 per year, and revenue forecasts would surpass that in under five years. The city has not determined how many will be employed at the rec center, but has factored salary into its projections.
The Boone City Council approved a special election to partially fund the facility at its Aug. 5 meeting. Boone residents will vote on whether the city should issue "no more than $10 million in general obligation bonds or capital loan notes" to help fund facility construction. [Ames Tribune]
