The long-awaited Stanley A. White Recreation Center has officially opened its doors, marking a significant milestone for the Duffyfield community. The new facility replaces the previous center, which was heavily damaged by Hurricane Florence.
Residents expressed their amazement at the new two-story center, which features a double gymnasium, full-size basketball courts, and a walking track. One community member said, "Well, it kinda leaves you at awe. I kind of was looking forward to what it would look like, but I had no idea it would look like this."
The center offers exercise options for all weather conditions and provides a unique view for those using the facilities. "Giving you the option of exercising morning, noon, or night, rain sleet or snow. But the best part the view. You get to exercise, listen to a podcast, listen to music while missing out on all the action happening right on the court," said a resident. [News 12]

County leaders want to boost tourism revenue on the West side of Volusia County, and one way is through a proposed $39 million sports complex.
The county is eyeing the land it owns right across from Pfc. Emory L. Bennett Veterans Park in Orange City. The current proposal has a mix of over a doz[en turf and natural fields that could host seven different sports, facilities, and 800 parking spots.
On Thursday, the county council voted to explore a public-private partnership for development and management of the complex.
“The adjacency to the interstate, our ownership of it, the ability to be able to develop some commercial development adjacent to this 100 acres has really made this a prime spot,” said Brad Burbaugh, the county’s community services director. “We certainly have the capital funds through our ballot-approved ECHO program to build such a facility.” [News 6]
