Skanska Announces Completion of Belmont Skating Rink and Athletic Facility
Skanska announced the substantial completion of the new 40,300-sq.-ft. Belmont (Mass.) Skating Rink and Athletic Facility in Belmont, Mass. The new facility occupies the site of the former Viglirolo Skating Rink, which was demolished prior to construction.
"Skanska's team provided construction expertise in a professional manner to navigate the twists and turns that come up during this type of project and were able align their trade partners to focus on the town's vision and goals," said Mark Haley, chair of the building committee.
"The Viglirolo Skating Rink had long been a focal point of the local Belmont hockey community, and we're honored to have played a role in the revitalization of the space through the construction of the new Belmont Skip Viglirolo Rink," said Bryan Northrop, executive vice president and general manager of Skanska USA Building's New England region. "Skanska is proud to have delivered a modern, sustainable facility that will serve future generations of Belmont athletes and residents, serving as a testament to our team's experience building state-of-the-art athletic facilities for the New England region."
City of Green Opens New Center of Recreation and Education
The opening of Green's new Center of Recreation and Education (CORE) could not have come at a better time.
As the skies turn gray and days grow shorter and cooler, the new facility will have its official ribbon-cutting and open house Saturday, Nov. 15 to welcome athletes and athletic-minded residents.
The city's CORE is a 53,000-square-foot indoor recreation and community center that is connected to the Green's middle school.
This is the growing Summit County city's first indoor public recreation facility.
Several years in the making, Mayor Rocco Yeargin said, the new recreation center is geared to complement and not compete with the YMCA in the city and another wellness center run by Cleveland Clinic Akron General.
Italian Architecture Firm Completes Padel Center at Milan's CityLife Development
Italian architecture firm Novembre Studio has completed a polycarbonate padel centre at Milan's CityLife development, which was designed in response to the adjacent CityWave office by BIG.
Named the Golden Goose Arena, the 12-metre-tall sports centre contains seven indoor padel courts, a cafe, lounge area, clothing shop, as well as two outdoor padel courts.
Clad in polycarbonate panels, the padel centre's blocky form has a semi-transparent lower portion topped by a translucent upper level that curves up and overhangs 17 metres over the entrance.
Located in a park in the CityLife district, which was formerly Milan's trade fair grounds, the gently curved shape of the Golden Goose Arena was designed to mirror the swooping form of the neighbouring CityWave office building by BIG, which is currently under construction.
