Giant City School Cuts Ribbon on New Outdoor Complex
Giant City School (CGS) in Carbondale is hosting a ribbon-cutting ceremony to unveil the new Rochman Outdoor Complex, known as The Roc.
It will take place on Friday, August 28, at 5:30 p.m. at the new athletic facility, with beverages and cookies provided.
The event is open to the community.
Organizers said The Roc features a combined softball/baseball field, dugouts, batting cages, walking track and landscaping.
Gadsden State and City of Gadsden Break Ground on New Sports Park
Gadsden State Community College and the City of Gadsden broke ground Aug. 20 on a new 10-court tennis center at the Gadsden Sports Park.
The project is the latest addition to the Sports Park and continues a partnership between the college and the city to develop athletic facilities designed to serve Gadsden State student-athletes and the surrounding community.
“This project is another great example of what can happen when we work together to invest in our students and our community,” Gadsden State President Alan Smith said. “These courts will provide an outstanding home for our student-athletes while also creating a resource that can be enjoyed by the community. We are grateful to the City of Gadsden, the Alabama Community College System (ACCS), and all of our partners who continue to invest in this campus and in the future of our region.”
The tennis center will include 10 new courts at the Gadsden Sports Park, located behind Gadsden State’s Wallace Drive Campus along the Coosa River.
The project follows other efforts by Gadsden State and the City of Gadsden to expand and improve the Sports Park and increase its capacity for athletics and recreation.
Brantley County Schools Cut Ribbon on Athletics Facility
Brantley County Schools officials and community leaders gathered Monday afternoon for the official ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Brantley County Athletic and Fine Arts facility.
The celebration was for the completion of the facility, a multi-purpose project designed to serve both athletic and fine arts programs.
Superintendent Dr. Walker Todd welcomed everyone to the 5 p.m., August 24 event.
“This has been a long time coming,” said Dr. Walker. “We’re really excited to finally be able to share this facility with our students, staff and community. I’d like to recognize someone who played a big part in making this happen, our former superintendent, Dr. Kim Morgan.”
“She had a vision for this facility and worked for many years to get us to where we are today. We truly appreciate her leadership, her hard work, and her commitment to Brantley County Schools.”
