Mavericks Narrow Arena Site to Two Locations

The Dallas Mavericks have zeroed in on two possible locations for a new arena, both of which still within the city of Dallas, according to CEO Rick Welts.

Welts told the Dallas Morning News in an interview on Tuesday they were looking at the land where City Hall lies and the Valley View Center property to potentially be the new arena site. A Mavericks spokesperson independently confirmed the reports with WFAA.

City Hall is located on Marilla Street in downtown Dallas, and the Valley View Mall property sits at the corner of Preston Road and Interstate 635 in northern Dallas.

The prospective locations give new insight into the Mavs' future plans. Welts also told the DMN they hope to announce which venue has been chosen by July. The Mavericks' current lease with the American Airlines Center expires in 2031. Welts has said in the past they intend to move into this new arena after completing the current lease in 2031.

The city of Dallas is still having conversations about whether to preserve or demolish the City Hall building, Mavs officials confirmed.

Ohio State to Replace Scoreboards in North and South End Zones

Ohio Stadium will have a new look beginning in the 2026 season.

While the Buckeyes are already set to have premium seating in the south end zone beginning next season, Ohio State will have a new scoreboard in the north end zone as well.

The Board of Trustees, in December, approved a contract to replace the video board in the north end zone, along with several other upgrades and replacements, a project that has a $6.5 million budget and will be completed before the 2026 season kicks off:

  • Replace the east and west ribbon boards
  • Replace B-Deck video boards
  • Replace interior and exterior audio at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center
  • Replace the WHAC video board

The scoreboard in the south end zone, along with ribbon board replacement, Pay Forward Society signage and audio replacements, is set to take place in 2027 but will be requested for approval by the Board of Trustees at a later date. That project will have a budget of $22 million and, if approved, will be completed prior to the 2027 season.
