Tampa Bay Rays Release First Renderings of New Stadium
The Tampa Bay Rays today released initial renderings of the proposed ballpark and mixed-use district at Hillsborough College’s Dale Mabry campus.
The images offer an early look at a vision for the site and will continue to evolve based on further study of the site and ballpark design concepts, as well as input from local leaders and residents.
“I’m incredibly grateful for what our organization and the Tampa community have accomplished in just over 100 days since acquiring the team, and of the progress we are making together toward a Forever Home for the Rays and our loyal fans,” said Patrick Zalupski, Managing Partner of the Tampa Bay Rays. “Hillsborough County’s unanimous vote is a significant milestone and a clear signal that Tampa is serious about keeping Major League Baseball in this region and transforming Tampa Bay for generations to come.”
“We are moving into the next phase of this process with excellent momentum, thanks to the outstanding support of community leaders and our staff and partners here at the Tampa Bay Rays,” added Ken Babby, Chief Executive Officer of the Tampa Bay Rays. “We’re proud to share our bold and dynamic vision for the ballpark, and believe strongly in its ability to benefit the team and our fans, Hillsborough College, the surrounding neighborhoods and the entire region.
Meridian High School Cuts Ribbon on Baseball, Softball Fields
Meridian High School celebrated the return of baseball and softball to campus after more than 50 years without the sports.
The school unveiled Mississippi’s first dual-purpose baseball and softball field, which will serve both programs. This marks the first time the softball team will be hosted at the school.
Before the new facility, athletes had to travel off-campus just to practice. The field gives both teams a home base on school grounds.
“I’m extremely excited for our student-athletes and for the community,” athletic director Dr. Cheyenne Trussell said. “It’s been over 50 years since baseball has been played here at Meridian High School. Our kids are very much deserving of this opportunity.”
Gainesville High School Opens New Baseball Complex
Gainesville's newest athletic facility will be named after legendary baseball coach Wayne Vickery.
The school announced on Tuesday that the new $3.6 million Gainesville baseball training and development center at Ivey-Watson Field will be named after the five-time state champion Gainesville baseball coach and former athletics director.
"Coach Vickery didn't just win games; he built men of character and a culture of winning that we still strive to uphold today," said Adam Lindsey, Gainesville High School athletic director. "Naming this facility 'The Vic' is a small token of our immense gratitude for everything he has given not just to this program, but Gainesville athletics and the Gainesville community as well."
