Bon Secours Arena Secures $140M for Upgrades

The Greenville County Council has approved three ordinances to fund future upgrades to Bon Secours Wellness Arena (BSWA), transforming the former Bi-Lo Center into a premier entertainment destination in the Southeast.

The ordinances, approved at a Feb. 17 County Council meeting, include a substantial facelift for the 28-year-old facility, a new building exterior, back-of-house upgrades, a second-level lobby addition, and a new amphitheater at 650 N. Academy St.

In total, $140 million has been granted to the Greenville Arena District (GAD) through reserve fund protections, with no impact on taxpayers, and a tax bond from Greenville County.

Pacer Pit to Undergo $3M in Renovations

After more than three decades in the same location, University of South Carolina Aiken soccer is getting a new home.

The university is investing more than $3 million into a state-of-the-art soccer facility located across from the Convocation Center and baseball complex. The project is part of a larger athletic master plan that has already brought a newly constructed softball stadium to campus.

For years, the Pacers played at Pacer Pit — a natural grass field located near Pacer Commons and Pacer Downs. While the field has served the program since its addition in 1990, it often retained water after heavy rain, leading to cancellations and disrupted practices.
