Meridian, Idaho, Breaks Ground on New Rec Center
A 26,000-square-foot Meridian Community Center, more than six times the size of the previous one, is one step closer to becoming a reality.
City officials held a ceremonial groundbreaking Thursday for the future structure at its planned site west of Settlers Park’s ball fields. The 11-acre parcel of land, which the city acquired in 2024 from the West Ada School District, will also be used for an expansion of the park.
“This community center will be a place where Meridian families gather, where kids learn and play, where seniors stay active and neighbors connect with one another,” the city’s Parks and Recreation Director Steve Siddoway said.
Christian Presbyterian Academy Opens New $25M Athletics Facility
When Becky LeGate arrived at Christ Presbyterian Academy as girls basketball coach in 2010, she was told by Head of School Nate Morrow that a new gym was on the way.
Civitas Gym was built when the school was established in 1985, and while the nearly 1,000-seat venue has held its own, CPA needed another athletic facility as enrollment began to grow.
“We had middle schools practicing off campus, and people coming in the early morning and then leaving late at night,” CPA boys basketball coach Tyler Holloway said.
Plans were in place for another gym in 2010 but were put aside for the Soli Deo Center, which houses CPA’s performing arts programs.
Despite the new gym being set aside, Morrow stood by his original promise to LeGate.
She said the wait absolutely paid off.
“Had they built that 14 years ago, 15 years ago, it would not be like this,” LeGate said.
The $25 million Fortis Arena, built by locally owned HASTINGS Architecture and raised via a campaign, opened on CPA’s campus on Jan. 30 as a state-of-the-art facility including not only a new gym but also multiple athletic facilities, from locker rooms for multiple varsity teams to a brand-new fitness room.
Proposed $30M Multipurpose Arena for Colorado Passes First Hurdle
A proposed multi-million dollar project in southern Colorado passes it’s first hurdle, but not without opposition. “We want this to represent the families of this community for generations,” said Scott Kujath, Senior Pastor, Pine Valley Church.
“Legacy and heritage,” that’s the heart behind the proposed Pine Valley Heritage Arena in Bayfield, Colorado.
“Bayfield is a one-stop-light town between Durango and Pagosa Springs, right? So now you put Bayfield on the map and people are intentionally coming here, so they’re going to fill up their cars with gas here. They’re going to eat in the restaurants here, shop in the few stores that are here,” said Kujath.
