Tulane Opens New Indoor Practice Facility
Tulane's Green Wave Indoor Practice Facility, which will serve as a training ground for the Green Wave football team as well as each of Tulane's 17 NCAA Division I sports, will officially open tomorrow, Tuesday, February 24.
"This facility is the latest in a series of major transformational projects and upgrades we have made to the university's athletic complex to ensure that our student-athletes have the resources to continue to compete at the highest levels," Tulane President Michael A. Fitts said.
"Our student-athletes are the best and they deserve the best," said Patrick Norton, Tulane's senior vice president, chief operating officer and treasurer. "Facilities such as this show that our commitment to Green Wave athletics is stronger than ever."
The opening of the practice facility comes on the heels of last week's debut of the Goldring Tennis Complex as the new home for Green Wave Tennis. Both projects follow other major additions and enhancements to Tulane athletics in recent years, which include renovating the James W. Wilson Jr. Center, upgrading the turf in Yulman and Turchin stadiums, opening the Libby and Robert Alexander Community Sailing Center, overhauling Tulane's natatorium and more.
Stadium District Planned for World's Largest Stadium
Architecture studios BDP, Cox Architecture and Collage Design have revealed designs for a trio of sports venues in Ahmedabad, India, which will be built alongside the world's largest stadium.
Named Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Sports Enclave, the complex will include a tennis venue, aquatics centre and indoor arena near the 132,000-seat Narendra Modi Stadium – a cricket ground that opened in 2020 and is the largest stadium in the world.
Situated along the Sabarmati River, the masterplan was designed as a city park and sports district ahead of Ahmedabad hosting the 2030 Commonwealth Games and the wider Gujarat state hosting the 2029 World Police and Fire Games.
Wagener-Salley High School Breaks Ground on Athletic Complex
District leaders, coaches, and community members packed the grounds of Wagener-Salley High School to celebrate the highly anticipated unveiling of the school's brand-new athletic complex –a major milestone for the War Eagle community.
This $15 million dollar project will bring new football, baseball, and softball fields, and an eight-track lane to the campus. The players have been using the fields at the former school location, so players and coaches are anticipating this upgrade.
"The main question I get from players is when is it going to be ready. The seniors last year were a little disappointed that they didn't get to play on it, but the girls this year know that next years the year." said head softball coach Jennifer Starnes.
All of the fields being in the same place makes things more convenient for the players. It saves them from having to travel a mile out just to go practice.
