HKS Releases Updated Renderings of Commanders' New Stadium

HKS, the Dallas-based architecture and design firm behind the new Washington Commanders stadium slated for the former RFK Stadium site in D.C., released updated renderings of the proposed stadium Wednesday.

In January, HKS unveiled initial renderings that showed a translucent, concave roof over a light gray pillared stadium.

D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser pushed for the roof, citing the potential for year-round events.

In a news release Wednesday, the Commanders said the updated renderings highlight the team’s goal of “creating a neighborhood gathering place and national stage capable of hosting community programming and large-scale events beyond game days.”

New Renderings of Vandy's $300M Vision

Showcasing the bold vision for Vandy United’s new $300 million goal, Vanderbilt has unveiled select renderings for numerous projects related to the campaign’s next phase. These renderings include facilities that build on the football team’s historic success under two-time SEC Coach of the Year Clark Lea and flagship projects in the recently launched Anchored for Her initiative supporting the university’s women’s teams.

“Our aspirations have never been higher, and our commitment to excellence has never been stronger,” said Candice Storey Lee, vice chancellor for athletics and university affairs and athletic director. “Commodore Nation has already seen what’s possible when we bring Vandy United’s vision to life. Now we take the next step—reimagining the football experience, investing in new homes for soccer and lacrosse, and building championship-caliber spaces across Vanderbilt Athletics. Together, we are creating a model for sustainable excellence that will lead the future of college sports. There has never been a better time to be a Commodore.

“As we enter this next era together, these renderings represent a bold vision for what lies ahead and a commitment to reinvesting in the future of Vanderbilt Athletics.”

New Details Released on Smokies Stadium Redevelopment

A redeveloped Smokies Stadium would become an amphitheater at the center of a new development in plans shared this week.

The Outlet Retail Group (TORG) has been negotiating with the City of Sevierville and Sevier County since last year over potential plans for the former home of the Tennessee Smokies.

Plans released this week show an amphitheater at the heart of a new development, surrounded by a hotel, restaurants, and shops. TORG has indicated the development would also include apartments that could serve as workforce housing.

The plans also appear to be moving toward TORG acquiring the property rather than leasing it, as officials have indicated the Sevierville Industrial Development Board (IDB) “will serve as the lead entity in facilitating potential acquisition and redevelopment opportunities for the stadium site.”
