Contracts, Financing Approved for Colorado's Zebulon Sports Complex

Plans to build a massive new sports complex in Douglas County took a major step forward Tuesday night, as Douglas County commissioners approved contracts and financing on the project.

The special business meeting was packed with members of the Colorado community with strong feelings on the incoming Zebulon sports complex in Sterling Ranch. Douglas County says 50 people signed up to speak in favor of Zebulon in public comment, and 28 against.

The county usually goes in order of who signed up for public comment, but told CBS Colorado that Tuesday night they chose to let Chair George Teal call people based on their position for or against so that a mix of opinions would be represented. Many attendees who opposed Zebulon were not happy about this, some saying they signed up more than an hour before the meeting but were never called.

Meridian, Idaho, Parks and Recreation Breaks Ground on New Community Center

Meridian Parks and Recreation and the Meridian Fire Department co-hosted a groundbreaking ceremony for the city's new $21 million community center and an expansion of Settlers Park on Feb. 19, 2026, at the future building's site just west of the Settler Park ball field complex off North Venable Avenue.

Kreizenbeck Construction will serve as the project's construction manager.

The 26,000-sq.-ft. building, whose design and construction are primarily funded by impact fees collected from building permits rather than tax dollars, will serve as the city's hub for community education programs offered through the Meridian Parks and Recreation Department.

"We're thrilled to break ground on the new community center and the expansion of Settlers Park," said Meridian Parks and Recreation Director Steve Siddoway. "The community helped shape this project every step of the way, and we can't wait to see Meridian families and people of all ages enjoying the space for years to come — whether that's staying active, trying something new, or simply connecting with friends and neighbors."

The new community center, designed by the architectural firm Cushing Terrell, will feature a reception area, a gymnasium with a small stage, two fitness rooms, several multipurpose and specialized classrooms and flexible meeting spaces where classes, camp and activities can be held year-round. It will have roll-up doors to connect indoor spaces with an outdoor patio area.

Multi-Million-Dollar Playground To Be Built in San Mateo

The San Mateo County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday unanimously approved a $3.8 million project to replace a 20-year-old bayshore playground.

Magic Mountain Playground at Coyote Point Recreation Area in San Mateo “no longer meets current safety and accessibility standards and is at the end of its useful life,” county officials said. Incorporating community feedback, the playground that will be built in its place aims to include play spaces for children of all ages and abilities.

Some of the more iconic features of the current playground, such as the purple sea creature, will be incorporated into the new design, the county said. Other improvements planned include better access and circulation for playground visitors.
