Nebraska Proposes $600M Overhaul of Memorial Stadium
Nebraska's Memorial Stadium will undergo a $600 million overhaul that will make the 103-year-old venue more fan-friendly and greatly increase revenue for the athletic department, according to a plan announced Friday and expected to be approved next week.
"Big Red Rebuild," as the project is called, would be funded by a mix of $250 million in philanthropic support and $350 million in private bond financing. Completion is targeted for the start of the 2028 football season. University regents will consider the proposal at their meeting in Lincoln next Friday.
"Memorial Stadium is one of the most iconic venues in all of college sports and this project ensures that our stadium is well-positioned for future generations," athletic director Troy Dannen said in a statement. "We have listened intently to Nebraska fans and are building a best-in-class fan experience that will also drive revenue for the University of Nebraska, create exciting new year-round programming for Nebraskans, create new opportunities for our student-athletes, and position Nebraska to compete and lead at the highest level in a rapidly evolving college athletics landscape."

The Pizzagalli Support Building officially opened its doors earlier this spring, ushering in a new era for UVM student-athletes and fans who have been competing at the complex for more than 60 years. The Pizzagalli Support Building was formally dedicated at a ceremony held on April 17, 2026.
"This is a very exciting moment for our athletics program, and I'm incredibly appreciative of the support from Remo and Donna and the many others who have contributed so generously to the project's completion," said Jeff Schulman '89, UVM's director of athletics. "The Pizzagalli Support Building is a game-changer—we now have a modern facility that supports all of the high-level games and events that occur at the complex and annually attract tens of thousands of visitors to our campus."
The Pizzagalli Support Building realizes UVM's long-term vision for the Archie Post Athletic Complex, serving as a gathering place for both competition and community while elevating UVM's ability to compete, host, and inspire on a national stage. The one-story, 4,700-square-foot multi-use facility sits prominently at the entrance to the complex, a hub and anchor for Virtue Field, Moulton Winder Field, and the Frank H. Livak '41 Track and Field Facility.
Jefferson Davis County School District Unveils Athletics Facilities Upgrade Plans
The Jefferson Davis County School District is exploring a series of athletic facility upgrades that could significantly expand opportunities for student-athletes across the district.
In a recent post, Superintendent Ike Haynes shared a preliminary design outlining potential improvements at multiple campuses, including the middle school and a site in Bassfield.
Plans call for transforming a gym at the middle school into a centralized baseball and softball complex, complete with new locker rooms, weight training areas and indoor and outdoor batting facilities. The proposal also includes construction of new baseball and softball fields with upgraded dugouts and expanded parking.
