Oklahoma City Approves $25M Indoor Softball Facility
The city council has approved a preliminary report for an indoor softball facility to be built next to Devon Park in northeast Oklahoma City.
In a unanimous vote, councilors on Tuesday, May 5, approved the report and will receive a final report from the architectural firm designing the facility, which is estimated to cost about $25.4 million, in the next few weeks.
The construction of the indoor facility, as well as other improvements at Devon Park, will be funded in large part by a bond issue approved by Oklahoma City voters in 2025. Oklahoma City-based STUDIO Architecture created the design for the indoor facility.
Tampa Bay Rays Stadium Deal Faces Tight Deadline as Financing Questions Persist
The future of a proposed new stadium for the Tampa Bay Rays is becoming increasingly urgent as local leaders weigh a multi-billion-dollar development plan with major unanswered financial questions.
While the Tampa City Council prepared to meet Thursday for its regular session, one of the city’s most pressing issues — the Rays’ proposed stadium project — was notably absent from the agenda.
During a special workshop earlier this week, Rays officials presented plans for a new $2.3 billion stadium to be built at the current site of Hillsborough Community College’s Dale Mabry campus in Tampa.
Team representatives told council members they need a deal in place by June 1, or the team would begin exploring alternative locations for a future ballpark.
That timeline leaves city and county officials with just weeks to negotiate funding arrangements and finalize approvals.
