Tuscaloosa Academy broke ground on its first new building in years during a ceremony in May 2026.
The Mayers Athletic Center will house a new football fieldhouse, a new weight room three times the size of the old one and a tournament-style gym with locker rooms.
Construction is beginning and will take around 12 months to finish.
Plans for the facility were in the works since 1988.
The school started raising money for the building 18 months ago. School leaders credited Rick and Chloe Mayer for donating $1 million toward the project.
More than $5 million of the $7 million needed for the building has been raised so far.
