New Oregon State Facility Will Support Five Field Sports Programs

Oregon State University supporters have made philanthropic commitments totaling $25 million to construct a new facility that will support 150 student-athletes in softball, men’s and women’s soccer, women’s cross country and women’s track and field. This significant investment underscores the momentum for the future of OSU Athletics, alongside the $48 million Valley Challenge for Student-Athletes, which strengthens Oregon State’s revenue-sharing opportunities.

The building initiative, funded entirely by donors to the OSU Foundation, was launched with an $11 million commitment by an anonymous donor. Ten donor households – eight with gifts of over $1 million each and two with gifts of $500,000 – completed the funding for the project.

Located near competition venues, the field sports building will include spaces for training, treatment, nutrition, film study and team connection. At present, locker rooms and training facilities for these sports are spread out across campus.

Lake Charles Zeroes on on Plans for Downtown Sports Complex

Nearly two years after the Hertz Tower in Downtown Lake Charles was demolished, the city appears to be zeroing in on a concrete proposal to replace it with an indoor sports complex.

According to Director of Community Services Michael Castille, there’s one partner Mayor Marshall Simien has been especially excited about: Baton Rouge-based WHLC Architecture.

“They’ve done some major stuff,” Castille told the Downtown Development Authority during a meeting last week. “But the exciting part is who they’re linked with.”

WHLC has collaborated with Sasaki, an award-winning international planning and design firm, on major projects, including a 116,000 square-foot recreation center for the University of South Alabama, and has contributed extensively to Baton Rouge’s Health District master plan.
